Oil Painting Process is a five-week course that will lead students through my process of creating a painting from start to finish. This class will take you through the technique of selecting color pallets and pigments, laying out drawings, blocking in, and layering colours for a rendered finish.

The class will consist of pre-recorded video demos and live weekly lessons via Zoom. This format allows students the freedom to work at their own pace while receiving live feedback and lessons as they progress.  All pre-recorded lessons will include short lectures followed by extensive painting demonstrations that include multiple camera views to give students the feel of learning in the studio. Live lessons will offer an opportunity for 1-1 feedback and demonstrations where students can work in sync with the instructor during demos, ask questions, and receive feedback in real-time.

This course is recommended for students with some prior painting experience, but beginners are welcome. Students will be given a prepared composition to work from for five weeks and a recommended canvas size and pallet. You may opt to use your own composition during this course, but please communicate this with me via email before the start date of the class so I can ensure it will work well with the course instruction.

Oil paint will be used for all demos, however, acrylic paints can be substituted for those who cannot work in oil from home. I will also give a short introduction to solvent-free oil painting options during our first class. In case a student needs to miss a live class, the live classes will be recorded. Recordings will only be available for students enrolled in the class and will be deleted after the course has concluded.

A suggested material list will be sent out after registration. This list will contain all the paints and materials I will use for the demo, and some alternative suggestions. Students who already have a studio/painting set up are welcome to use their own materials as well. It is strongly recommended you have a webcam/camera set up where I can see your painting, so I can give you the best feedback possible.
