Colour and Light

Colour and Light is an introduction to colour mixing and colour assessment. This class will take you through the process of assessing and mixing colour to create still-life paintings that have a real sense of light and environment.

I will be leading the class live via Zoom in four weekly sessions. Students will work in sync with the instructor during demos, be able to ask questions, and receive feedback in real-time. Demos will include short lectures and painting in real-time, as well as palette views to give students the feel of learning in the studio.

This course will cover an introduction to composition, value structure, colour mixing, and creating harmonious colour schemes. Students will be provided with photo reference of the instructors still-life in order to let them work in sync, and will create a small painting every week.

Oil paint will be used for all demos, however, you do not need to paint in oil to participate. Gouache and acrylic paints can be substituted for those who cannot work in oil from home. In case a student needs to miss a class, the classes will be recorded.

NEW: Oil Painting Process

Oil Painting Process is a four week course that will lead students through my own process of creating a painting from start to finish. This class will take you through the process of selecting colour pallets, laying out drawings, blocking-in, and layering oil paint for a detailed finish.

I will be leading the class live via Zoom in four weekly sessions. Students will work in sync with the instructor during demos, be able to ask questions, and receive feedback in real-time. Demos will include short lectures and painting in real-time, as well as palette views to give students the feel of learning in the studio.

This course is recommended for students with prior experience working in oils, or those who have taken my Colour and Light course. Students will be given a prepared composition to work from for the duration of four weeks and a recommended canvas size and pallet.

Oil paint will be used for all demos and is recommended for this class, however, acrylic paints can be substituted for those who cannot work in oil from home. In case a student needs to miss a class, the classes will be recorded.
